Steps to Resolve the Error that Occurs While Restoring Your Company File
Step 1: Remove any special characters from your file name
It is important that your company name does not exceed 30 characters, and it does not contain any special characters.
Step 2: Restore the company file
You can restore your company file from a backup (.qbb).
- First, copy the backup file to your local drive. Do not transfer them to an online storage folder.
- These steps will help you restore your company’s backup file:
- Go to the File menu, and choose Open or Restore Company. In QuickBooks
- Select Restore a backup copy, then Next.
- Then, select Local Backup and then Next.
- You will now need to search your computer for the backup company file. It will look something like this: [Your company name]. qbb
- Next, choose a folder where you want to save the company file.
- Then select Open.
- You might accidentally overwrite your company data if you open your backup data in the same folder as your company file. You can avoid this by renaming your backup or existing company file so they are distinct and do not become confused. The backup can be saved in a separate folder.
- Once you are satisfied, click Save. If you are prompted about possible data overwriting, choose the one that suits your needs. If you don’t want to overwrite any data, please do not.
These steps will help you troubleshoot your QuickBooks error.
Finally, Let’s now move on to the last situational error.
How you can reset the backup (.qbbb) Company File?
To restore your company file, you will need to create a portable file (.qbm).
- Open QuickBooks Desktop on the same machine as the one used for creating the backup company file.
- Then, open your original company file, then create a portable version of it.
- Open QuickBooks Desktop on your new computer.
- Eventually, you can then restore your company file by using the portable copy (.qbm), instead of the backup. Voila! You’re done.
