Celtic

During the January transfer window, Celtic completed a 3.5 million transfer deal for Canada’s Alistair Johnston. The 22-year-old is a former Nashville SC player who was drafted by the club in 2020. In his last international game, Johnston was an outstanding standout in Canada’s loss to Belgium.

In January, Ange Postecoglou has already completed signings from the likes of Shayden Morris, Ali Crawford, Leighton Clarkson, and Joshua Sims. However, the Scottish club have still been tasked with filling out the squad at the centre of the park.

Ange Postecoglou’s players rated on season so far

As Ange Postecoglou looks to strengthen the Celtic squad, he is in need of three new centre backs. Ideally, he would like to sign Adam Montgomery, John Souttar, and Chris Jullien. However, these three players have all been linked with other clubs. One of the most likely destinations for John Souttar could be Hearts. However, Hearts have rejected the PS300,000 bid, and have reportedly been looking for more than PS600,000. If Celtic manage to lure John Souttar to Parkhead in the summer, he could cost a hefty fee.

Stephen Welsh Celtic move to Toulouse OFF as Hoops say they want to keep centre-back

Another option is to sign Stephen Welsh on loan. However, Toulouse are considering signing him on a permanent basis next summer, but Celtic are unwilling to part with Welsh for now. In January, Ange Postecoglou will be looking to add to his first-team squad. It has been suggested that he wants to include Welsh in his plans.

The Celtic boss is also considering adding Dylan Tait and Adam Montgomery. However, it seems that Laxalt’s contract will not be renewed next season. If the player does not want to leave Celtic, there is no chance of a return. Laxalt started off well at Celtic, but his performance at Galatasaray will raise eyebrows. He also showed some bizarre and disconcerting displays at Dinamo Moscow.

Johnston holds a Canadian passport, but is also an Irish citizen. He can play in both positions. However, his market value is around EUR6 million, and his contract is set to expire next season. If Celtic can get him to sign a new contract, the club would certainly consider bringing him to Parkhead.

It is also interesting to note that Johnston is being considered for a move to the Middle East. Ange Postecoglou was a fan of K-League before joining Celtic, and Johnston has played in that league with the Nashville SC. However, it appears that Ange Postecoglou is now more interested in players from Europe.

Celtic need to sign a left-back, a right-back, and a centre back. With the departures of Adam Montgomery, Zander Clark, and Lewis Mayo, Celtic are going to need to add some new players in that position. The Celtic manager wants to bolster his options, but he wants to sign players who can play both positions. If Johnston can play in both positions, then he could be a strong option.

In addition, the Celtic manager is looking to strengthen his midfield. He has already signed Ash Taylor and Jamie McCart from Rangers, and he is also considering signing Robert Snodgrass from Newcastle United. He also wants to add Adam Montgomery, who is wanted by Kilmarnock.
