In a highly controversial appearance during the HBO show “Real Sports ” featuring Bryant Gumbel,” Piper admitted that he had used drugs to stay his place in his Ring all through his pro-wrestling career. Piper also acknowledged that many professional wrestlers did similar things so that they would continue to compete despite the injuries they suffered and the discomfort they endured. The result was Roddy being exiled from Worldwide Wrestling Entertainment. The TAW (Total Action Wrestling) group, which comprises NWA stars, decided to sign Roddy in 2003 despite the controversy. This was advantageous for Piper and the TAW. Vince McMahon could not ignore Roddy’s rising popularity and brought him back to the huge and expanding Worldwide Entertainment.
