Travel

Sustainability is a highlight for some tourists to enjoy nature and luxury with sustainable services. Discover how to make your travel more helpful to the environment.

Over the past years, some subjects have been debated through social media. One of them is how companies and people’s habits can harm the global environment and how to change that.

Taking less long showers, using vegan products and decreasing the use of things that require a lot of feedstock from the environment can help create a good place for the next generations and for ourselves. However, companies and factories also have to contribute to the cause, for example, the hotels.

When you do research for a trip, you can check if the place is using sustainable resources, like hotels in Quito, Nicaragua, New Zealand or Galapagos Islands. That does not mean your experience will be less wonderful, but it does mean you are contributing to the planet.

However, you can also adopt some habits to make your travel more sustainable, to wherever you want to go, like using public transportation as trains or buses to visit the tourist points of the city. Besides contributing to the planet, you can also make friends and receive some tips about the place you are visiting. You can also choose products that do not harm nature, such as wood toothbrushes, vegan shampoo and conditioner in bars and plastic bags.

You can also visit and enjoy destinations where philanthropy and sustainability are the key players. Check out two examples of beautiful places you can travel to.

Costa Rica

Costa Rica is one of the leaders in environment protection. With over 500,000 different species of animals, the country has several tourism activities for those who like a little adventure and nature, like hiking in the forest or visiting the natural parks.

Besides that, the country has a big investment in conservation. Around 26% of the country’s land is conservated for national parks and wildlife reserves. Costa Rica is responsible for 5% of the world’s biodiversity, attracting many tourists over the years.

Over 95% of the country’s electricity comes from green energy, including the hotels that have their services fully sustainable, benefiting not only the environment, but also the local population. It is recommended that you have the vaccination card updated, once the place is surrounded by nature.

For those who are not fans of adventure, it is possible to enjoy the beaches around the place. With the most beautiful views, you can find waterfalls and crystal waters. If you like science or are just curious about the mysteries of nature, you can also visit some volcanoes.

Slovenia

Slovenia was considered by National Geographic the Greenest Place on Earth, in 2017. This is due to the fact Slovenia is 5th on the environment performance index worldwide.

With 22,000 different species of animals and plants, the country is great for those who like ecotourism and skiing, once 53.6% of the country is protected land. Over 40% of the household waste is recycled, and almost 40% of the energy comes from low carbon sources.

Known by Europeans that want a different night experience, you can enjoy bars and beautiful views of the water and cottages in big flowered fields. You can travel by train in the country, making your travel more sustainable and enjoying a good trip by yourself or with loved ones. If you are an adventurous person, you can explore caves with canions and see castles nearby.
