More than three years have passed since YouTube Premium first launched. The programme, formerly YouTube Red, has been renamed YouTube Premium and now offers YouTube Music Premium and other perks. Though it has improved over time, YouTube Premium has yet to become famous.

The many pop-ups encouraging me to sign up weren’t helpful, but there are good reasons to subscribe. So, if you haven’t tried YouTube Premium yet, we’ll lay out the pros, cons, and everything in between for you.

What is YouTube Premium?

You may find a wide variety of videos for no cost at all on YouTube, the most popular video-sharing website visit . Why is there a paid version, and what does it include? There is a premium service on YouTube called YouTube Premium. It’s an upgrade from YouTube Red that brings several perks, including an absence of advertisements on YouTube itself.

There is also a discounted student package for $6.99 per month. Annual plans currently need to be offered. For the lower option, which also provides a more extended two-month free trial, you will need proof that you are a student. Families with children or large families should sign up for the family plan because it covers up to five people living in the same home.

The gist of those schemes is restated below:

  • Basic: $11.99/month
  • $17.99/month for the family
  • College student rate: $6.99/month

Things that YouTube Premium can and should do better

Everything that was said about YouTube Red when it originally came out was around YouTube originals. Everybody’s favourite YouTubers, but with more money to work with? Sign me up! So far, YouTube still needs to meet expectations in this regard. Even if you don’t have a Premium account, you can still watch most original content today. Free accounts allow access to these, although quality declines as time progresses.

The company gives preference to celebrities over YouTubers. It’s a shame that YouTube doesn’t value its current creators more highly, considering they might be making a significant impact on the platform. Some have previously shown what they can do when given more resources. The documentary series Mind Field, created by Michael of Vsauce, is an excellent illustration of this.

Michael could delve further into topics by conducting experiments, interviewing experts, and more, thanks to Mind Field, which made Vsauce famous for its unique scientific material. That show was fascinating and fun to see. YouTube has the resources to replicate its early success by teaming up with other popular channels like Kurzgesagt, Crash Course, or even the Angry Video Game Nerd. Instead, we have shows like Celebrity Substitute and Joseph Gordon-Create Levitt’s Together With Me.

Should I pay for YouTube Premium?

No, there isn’t anything like Netflix or Hulu. But if you want a better YouTube experience and a music streaming service that’s on par with the best go to, you can’t go wrong with YouTube Premium. You’ll have a better time as a viewer, and your favourite creators will appreciate the financial boost.

So, the next time you see the nagging prompt, don’t dismiss it; give the service a try and see if it lives up to the hype. You may discover that you quite enjoy it. If you’d instead sign up right now, click the button.

A YouTube Original is a video that does not appear elsewhere online

To better compete with rivals, YouTube produces original programming and movies under the YouTube Originals banner. They cover much ground stylistically and feature some big names in film and on YouTube.

You can watch these videos on any of your connected devices as long as you have an active YouTube Premium subscription. After visiting tv/start, you’ll be shown a selection of the best YouTube Originals available to stream on YouTube Premium to help you get acquainted with the format.
