Recent MCU movies and shows have disappointed fans and critics big time, but a smaller, more tightly supervised number of projects could fix this.
For over a decade, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been the premiere movie franchise, dominating the box office and the pop culture consciousness. Other shared movie universes have come and gone, but the MCU has remained a steadfast smash hit. Sadly, all good things must come to an end, and the days of the Marvel Cinematic Universe being universally loved with each movie seem to be over.

The latest MCU flicks have almost all faltered in one way or another, with the shows making even less of a splash. Still, there’s definitely enough time for Marvel Studios and Disney to course correct, but it will require something almost sacrilegious. Likewise, a greater degree of planning and quality control is absolutely necessary; otherwise, the general audience may begin to feel that Endgame was not just a title.

People simply don’t have the time to watch all of these shows and movies, very few of which truly have the spectacle of the previous MCU projects. This formula, plus the lack of much applause, extends to the Disney+ TV shows. Feige seems to have stepped back a bit in the franchise’s current phase, with Marvel Studios perhaps convinced that it can do no wrong and that audiences will eat new projects up, regardless of quality. That will keep the projects from feeling aimless, all while convincing naysayers that the Marvel Cinematic Universe may still have some juice left in the tank.
Likewise, people will start getting sick of too much content regardless of quality, so slowing down the MCU conveyor belt is a must.
