As you get older, so comes with it the realization that your own happiness comes first and foremost over anyone else’s, even your nearest and dearest. Directly linked to your levels of personal happiness and fulfillment quota is your physical health and, of course, your emotional well-being. So, with this in mind, continue reading to discover how to encourage both health and happiness to flourish over the age of seventy.

Never Put Off Small Health Issues

It may well be that you have had your fair share of health problems in the past and now, as you approach seventy years old, feel as if the last thing you want to do is elect to have any procedure, regardless of the type, if you do not need to.

Take laser eye surgery, for example.

If your medical doctor, optician, or independent eye specialist has indicated, perhaps even more than once, that you have the beginnings of cataracts forming in one or both eyes, do not delay in making an appointment with the LASIK eye surgery

Celebrate Yourself

Becoming comfortable with yourself in the context of your body and physical appearance, as well as relating to who you are as a person and your personal achievements, is certainly something that is much more likely to come with age.

The key to happiness is, in essence, the contentment you find in who you are, what you have done, and, indeed, what you plan to do in the future. As someone who is either approaching or has already celebrated their seventieth birthday, now is the time to be loud and proud and get out there and enjoy yourself and everything you do

Make Exercise a Part of Your Daily Routine

As you will already be fully aware, regular exercise, combined of course with a healthy and varied diet, is essential for a long, happy and healthy life and as you are getting older, it becomes even more of a necessity.

Physical exercise, be that a walk around your local neighborhood for half an hour, or a bike ride around the park, can help reduce the risk of experiencing stroke or problems relating to your heart.

Other benefits of regular exercise, especially for those over seventies, include the following:

  • Improves your core strength
  • Helps with balance and with reducing the risk of trips and falls
  • Boosts to your emotional well-being and mental health
  • A way to naturally energize your body and your brain
  • Can contribute to improving your overall cognitive function

Engage Your Brain

Finally, but perhaps most importantly of all, another crucial element of a happy and healthy life as you grow older is to not only engage your body in exercise but also engage your brain.

Your working memory capacity is of particular importance when you are over the age of sixty. As such, you should start including crossword puzzles, sudoku, bridge, and chess, or else get around to reading all those books you intend on to ensure your brain is challenged and utilized. It also provides hours of entertainment!
